Another season has come and gone, yet here we are still dreaming about those summer nights at the Ford. From TAIKOPROJECT’s awe-inspiring Japanese taiko drumming to a sold-out two-day Día de los Muertos concert with Lila Downs, there are so many shows worth reminiscing about. So, we asked our staff to share their faves with us (and you).
Program Assistant Butterfly S. has perhaps watched more shows than anyone this season. Two that will stick with her forever: the absolutely fabulous R&B duo We Are KING and artist Hassan Hajjaj’s My Rockstars Experimental – Live. “We Are KING’s new school/old school style reminds me of the greats I used to listen to with my father - like Stevie Wonder and Earth, Wind & Fire,” said Butterfly.
By day, Monika Ramnath is the Ford’s development manager. By night, Monika had the opportunity to experience a show at the Ford in a totally different way - as a dancer for Son of the Wind, a classical Indian kathak dance drama. “I loved seeing the piece come to life in this space,” she says about the Leela Dance Collective’s take on the Ramayan. “The hillside and towers transformed beautifully into the forest and palace that form the settings of this ancient epic tale.”
With SAG-AFTRA’s Game Changers and the annual Outfest Under the Stars, Box Office Manager Ann Jensen asserts that the Ford was the “best place to see outdoor screenings in the city. The updated system brings fantastic audio and visuals to the audience, which makes for a great night out!”
If you have a lasting memory from an event you experienced here this summer, we’d love to hear about it! Please share over the Face-Twit-o-Gram and be sure to tag us! @FordTheatres | #ThePlaceToBe
