Presented by Jail Guitar Doors
Former MC5 guitarist and Jail Guitar Doors USA co-founder Wayne Kramer will once again take the stage in support of this nonprofit organization that uses music to help rehabilitate prisoners and youth offenders. This year’s concert will include a rare live performance by Moby. Other performances include Mindy Jones, Tripp Beam, Julie Mintz, Jonathan Nesvadba, Daron Murphy, Laura Dawn and special guest Benmont Tench (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers). Former Los Angeles poet laureate Luis Rodriguez will perform and emcee, and jazz legend Phil Ranelin will be featured with Jack Bowers and the Soledad Jazz Workshop.
Jail Guitar Doors is partnering with Project PAINT, an arts organization whose mission is to bring art projects to inmates as a form of rehabilitation. Founding director of Project PAINT Laura Pecenco and her team are eager to share the artwork of those incarcerated at Donovan Correctional Facility and California State Prison, Centinela by having a special exhibition before the show. Located on Edison Plaza, the presented artwork will highlight an array of themes, represent diverse media and demonstrate projects completed in multiple classes. Artwork will come from participants in the Project PAINT: The Prison Arts INiTiative, a visual arts program.
