Presented with Arab Film and Media Institute

From the jasmine tree-lined courtyards of Nizar Qabbani's Damascene homes to the flooded riverbanks of Langston Hughes' Harlem Renaissance poems, Kennedy Center Citizen Artist (2018-2019) Omar Offendum will bridge the ancient oral and musical traditions of the Middle East and North Africa with contemporary hip-hop and spoken word. Accompanying Omar for this one-of-a-kind performance are oud (Middle Eastern lute) virtuoso Ronnie Malley, drummer Te’Amir, Miles Jay on contrabass, and radio host and selector Miss Modular.

Pack a picnic or pick up some tasty bites at the café on The Zev and you’ll be treated to a live DJ set, courtesy of LA County Library’s Turns the Tables program. This free program pairs young DJs with a professional to learn the art of turntablism. From 6:30 – 7:30 PM, DJ PriceTag and DJ Runaway will be spinning tunes as the sun sets over the Cahuenga Pass.

This event is part of IGNITE @ the FORD!, a series presented by the Ford Theatre Foundation comprised of world-renowned contemporary artists whose work is thought-provoking and reflects the world in which we live. Supported by Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl.

About the Turns the Tables DJ Workshop

LA County Library's Turns the Tables series is a free nine-week DJ lab for beginners, ages 15 to 21. Students learn essential DJ skills and receive small business training from a professional instructor. The series concludes with an opportunity for the students to show off their new skills, while receiving feedback from industry DJs. To learn more about the program, go here.
