You may have been wondering, “What’s up with the Ford?” It’s true: we usually put tickets on sale in April. So, we hope you left some room in your summer - because it is with much excitement that we invite you to experience the fully refurbished Ford Theatres at our 2017 summer season!
And, we’ve got quite the season in store for you. Joining LA’s freshest artists are some of the most compelling world-renowned performers in our new series called IGNITE @ the FORD!, made possible by LA County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl. Tap virtuoso Savion Glover kicks off the series, and our celebratory summer season, using the interplay of song, melody and percussion to present a dynamic evening centered on a message of hope, something we all need a bit more of these days.
Other highlights in the IGNITE series include Northern Stars, an evening with Rufus Wainwright, presented with The Music Center On Location; LA-based Latino/Chicano performance trio Culture Clash; Grammy Award-winning Senegalese vocalist Youssou N’Dour; avant-garde Afro-Cuban music group Síntesis; Flamenco dancer Jesús Carmona; the West Coast premiere of The Hubble Cantata with LA Opera; a 100th birthday celebration of Ella Fitzgerald presented with The Apollo Theater; and the 30th anniversary celebration of Bang on a Can.
Ford favorites returning to the stage include Broadway Under the Stars, Fiesta Mexicana and Flypoet Summer Classic. Speaking of birthdays, turns out 2017 is a big year for anniversaries: Angel City Jazz Fest celebrates Thelonious Monk’s 100th; Viver Brasil celebrates its 20th; and Colibrí Entertainment pays tribute to the 30th anniversary of Linda Ronstadt’s hit album “Canciones de Mi Padre.” New groups to the Ford include Samba Society with Brasil 70: Samba / Soul / Resistance and KJAZZ 88.1 FM’s Hollywood Blues Bash. Other events to look out for include a concert featuring the remarkable Thelma Houston, a ride through the universe with WordTheatre, trumpeter Josef Leimberg doing what he does best, and dance by Kayamanan Ng Lahi Philippine Folk Arts and Pacífico Dance Company. And, so much more.
Did we mention that we have a new picnic terrace and café with epic views? We do! This final beautiful piece of our big renovation project is something we hope you take time to enjoy this summer. We see the Ford as a gathering space for friends and family. A place to experience all that Los Angeles, and the world, has to offer. We’ll see you here.
