"Taylor has beautifully fused together her training in hip-hop with contemporary modern dance to create a unique vocabulary that often speaks louder and more powerful than words." -- Jeff Slayton, LA Dance Chronicle
Micaela Taylor is no stranger to the Los Angeles dance scene. Her time dancing with renowned companies such as Ate9 Dance Company, BODYTRAFFIC and Heidi Duckler Dance and her fluidity of movement styles, moving effortlessly from contemporary to hip-hop, has landed her on Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch” for 2019.
Who better, then, to be the first choreographer as a Ford Theatres Artist-in-Residence? Recognizing that space and resources for artists to develop new work are in short supply, the Ford has begun opening its historic doors to a select number of artists. More details on the full slate of 2019 Artists-in-Residence coming soon.
Ignited by her passion to create diverse, engaging work, Micaela founded her own company in 2016. The TL Collective allows her the freedom to create her own forms of dance – a fusion of styles she dubs "contemporary/pop," which is heavily influenced by her training in both the Vaganova method of ballet and commercial dance.
During her Ford Theatres residency, Micaela Taylor + The TL Collective will create Drift, an original work that examines one’s ever-evolving relationship to self. The piece will expose Micaela’s season of self-growth into a breathtaking evening-length piece performed by seven dancers. Drift will have its first performance at the Ford on Saturday, March 30, before moving on to the prestigious Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival later this summer.
Micaela Taylor + The TL Collective perform on stage at the Ford on Saturday, March 20 at 5:00 PM. For tickets and info, click here.
