J.A.M. Sessions kick-off the season May 24
The Ford’s social media team had an opportunity to chat it up with fellow Ford staffer Lizzet Alvarez, producer of J.A.M. (Jazz and Motivated) Sessions, a series of free interactive workshops guided by 2010 Ford season artists.
This year there will be 11 Monday nights between May 24 and September 13 centered on movement and drumming. The “Move to the Beat” series, includes Israeli and Mexican folk, swing, contemporary and Korean traditional dance as well as hula and samba. The “Slam that Drum” series features taiko drumming and Afro-Peruvian and Afro-Cuban percussion. Multiple sessions in the same discipline enhance the experience for participants interested in learning more about these art forms. A painting session, “Self Portrait a la Frida Kahlo,” is a bonus event.
Patrons can move side by side with members of L.A. Contemporary Dance Company this upcoming Monday, May 24 for our first J.A.M Session of the season in “Dance in the Making” which reveals the craft of creating dances.
Lizzet Alvarez is the Community Bridges Program Manager for the Ford Theatre Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting performing arts programming at the historic John Anson Ford Theatres complex. Alvarez has been with the Ford for eight seasons and currently oversees the Community Bridges Program, an audience development program intended to encourage and facilitate participation in the John Anson Ford Theatre's programs, both on and off the stage by underrepresented members of the Los Angeles County.
